MARE IN GROUP TWO BID

Sold For Song out to raise the Spring bar at Caulfield

Her assignments don’t get any easier, but Toowoomba mare Sold For Song is in the mix for a slice of Melbourne Spring Carnival glory at Caulfield tomorrow.

The consistent five-year-old is searching for an overdue break-through in the Group Two Triscay Stakes over 1400 metres.

Sold For Song has been out of the winner’s list since since capturing the Listed Daybreak Lover during last year’s Queensland Winter Carnival.

She has since notched five minor placings in Group or Listed company including her latest first-up performance in the Group Two Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington two weeks ago.

Sold For Song resumed from a three-month break in the Gilgai for trainer Kevin Kemp with a strong-finishing second behind Keen Array.

That was her first outing since finishing a close-up fourth to Tycoon Tara in the Group One Tatt’s Tiara over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm.

Sold For Song has her first Caulfield start tomorrow after pleasing Kemp since her promising first-up effort.

“This is naturally going to be a tougher race for her than the Gilgai, but I can’t fault how she’s done after her first-up run,” Kemp said from Flemington yesterday.

“1400 metres at Caulfield is a different kettle of fish to the straight six at Flemington.

“Caulfield can be a tricky track but we’ll have no fixed instructions for Jimmy (Orman) and hopefully from a good gate (six) she’ll get her chance.

“We’re really happy with her and if she can finish in the first four or five it will be a big effort.”
