Yardings fall with the rain

TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

THERE were good falls of rain over the supply area, resulting in a small yarding of just 300 head.

Most classes of cattle were represente­d, however in limited numbers.

Quality was mixed, although there was several pens of yearlings that were supplement­ary fed, and suitable for the trade.

The market was firm to stronger in places, with restocker weaner steers selling to a top of 318c, while weaner heifers topped at 294c/kg.

Feeder steers topped at 328c, while the trade steers sold to 298c and heifers sold to 282c/kg.

The yarding of grown cattle was made up of small numbers, with grown steers selling to 282c, and heifers to 258c/kg.

The few medium and heavy weight cows sold up to 218c, and heavy bulls sold to a top of 264c/kg.

The yarding also consisted of a run of PTIC heifers and cows and calves that were sold open auction.

The PTIC heifers sold up to $1400 while the cows and calves sold to a top of $1520/unit.

BIGGENDEN CATTLE

Burnett Livestock & Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday saw a rain-reduced yarding of 420 head.

Heavy bulls topped at 289c; bullocks topped at 278c; cows over 500kg topped at 234c; cows 400kg to 500kg topped at 220c; trade heifers over 400kg topped at 280c.

Maitland Bros, Boompa sold four tooth Limousin cross bullocks for 278c/$1627.

A&A Trigger Grazing Trust, Biggenden sold two tooth Grey Brahman heifers for 276c/$1436 and cows for 229c/$1230.

A heavy Simmental bull for CF Lehmann & Son, Tansey sold for 289c/$2602.

W&A Bayntun, Gayndah sold four tooth Charbray heifers for 252c/$1216.

Feeder steers 400kg to 500kg sold to a top of 296c while steers 300kg to 400kg sold to 350c.

Steers 200kg to 300kg sold to 390c.

Clare Grazing, Theodore sold Charolais cross milk and two tooth steers for 296c/$1381 and Brahman milk and two tooth steers for 286c/$1230.

David Spry, Biggenden sold two and four tooth crossbred steers for 283c/$1412.

GJ&C Meredith, Binjour sold Charolais cross two tooth steers for 290c/$1319.

BK&DB Cislowski, Lowmead sold milk tooth Droughtmas­ter steers 298c/$990.

IN&LC Fowler, Coalstoun Lakes sold Droughtmas­ter cross weaner steers for 346c/$1119.

Boyd & Linda F/T, Gayndah sold Santa Gertrudis weaner steers for 358c/$894.

Trevor Gordon Holdings, Gayndah sold Droughtmas­ter cross weaner steers for 370c/$902.

Myola Grazing, Miriam Vale sold Brangus weaner steers for 390c/$807.

Heifers 300kg to 400kg sold to a top of 286c and heifers 200kg to 300kg topped at 330c.

Bayntun & Co, Gayndah sold milk to four tooth Charbray heifers for 280c/$1190.

L&M Wehl, Childers sold milk and two tooth Santa Gertrudis cross heifers for 284c/$1068.

B&M Hellyer, Childers sold milk tooth crossbred heifers for 280c/$938.

K&J Thompson, Childers sold Angus Droughtmas­ter weaner heifers for 302c/$891.

Trevor Gordon Holdings, Gayndah sold Droughtmas­ter cross weaner heifers for 330c/$728.

Myola Grazing, Miriam Vale sold Brangus weaner heifers for 316c/$614.

Bundara Grazing, Gayndah sold Red Brahman cross heifers for 306c/$780.

Cattle were drawn from Theodore, Gin Gin, Lowmead, Childers, Bundaberg, Miriam Vale, Yandaran, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Maryboroug­h, Hervey Bay and all local areas.

The next Biggenden meatworks and store sale is Monday, October 30.

ROMA STORE

A total of 3103 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 410c/kg and averaged 236c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 386c/kg and averaged 108c/kg.

Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 360c/kg and averaged 200c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 336c/kg and averaged 150c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 301c/kg and averaged 165c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $1104/unit.

S Kidman & Co - 'Durham Downs' - Eromanga sold Santa steers for 410c/kg at 200kg returning $820/head.

The Santa heifers sold for 348c/kg at 193kg returning $672/head.

Campmac Pty Ltd 'Saramac Downs' Wallumbill­a sold Charolais cross steers for 402c/kg at 165kg returning $665/head.

The Charolais cross cows sold for 228c/kg at 445kg returning $1015/head.

Abbotsford Pastroal Co. 'Abbotsford' - Hughenden sold Droughtmas­ter steers for 388c/kg at 193kg returning $752/head.

The Droughtmas­ter heifers sold for 324c/kg at 195kg returning $634/head.

Terry Jukes - 'Armadilla' Morven sold Santa cross steers for 382c/kg at 231kg returning $884/head.

The Santa cross heifers sold for 336c/kg at 186kg returning $628/head.

Sutton Beef - 'Bundabar' Glenmorgan sold Santa cross steers for 362c/kg at 247kg returning $897/head.

The Santa cross heifers sold for 318c/kg at 299kg returning $953/head.

Annabranch Holdings 'Annabranch' - Woandoan sold EU Accredited Santa steers for 360c/kg at 318kg returning $1147/head.

The EU Accredited Santa cross heifers sold for 322c/kg at 266kg returning $858/head.

Lyndale Grazing Co. 'Lyndale' - Roma sold Santa cross steers for 292c/kg at 452kg returning $1,320/head.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 388c/kg and averaged 178c/kg, while heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 326c/kg and averaged 198c/kg.

Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 320c/kg, averaging 240c/kg.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 312c/kg, averaging 230c/kg.

Tickalara Pastoral Co. 'Tickalara' - Thargomind­ah sold Santa cross heifers for 320c/kg at 281kg returning $902/head.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 220c/kg and averaged 106c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 239c/kg and averaged 140c/kg.

Cows over 500kg topped at 225c/kg, averaging 200c/kg.

Bulls under 400kg topped at 410c/kg and averaged 226c/kg, while bulls in the 400-600kg range topped at 254c/kg and averaged 243c/kg.

Bulls over 600kg topped at 256c/kg, averaging 130c/kg.

WARWICK CATTLE

The wet weather saw numbers fall by more than half for a yarding of 366 head.

Young cattle made up a large percentage of the yarding, along with a small yarding of grown cattle.

The yarding of young cattle consisted mainly of yearlings, with increased numbers of well finished steers and heifers that were supplement­ary fed.

These attracted keen demand from wholesaler­s and butchers.

There were also a fair numbers of well-bred light steers and heifers that were acquired by feeders and restockers.

The market was stronger with restocker weaner steers selling to a top of 343c/kg.

Feeder steers topped at 326c/kg.

Trade yearling steers sold up to 307c/kg.

Trade yearling heifers were up to 20c dearer, which was helped by improved quality and most sold from 277c to 318c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle was made up mainly of cows, along with a few pens of grown steers and heifers.

Bullocks and steers were 9c dearer, selling to a top of 286c, while heifers topped at 264c/kg.

The cow marker also improved, 3 score medium weights averaged 212c, and heavy cows sold to a top of 223c/kg.

DALBY CATTLE

Similar to some other markets the supply of stock at last week’s Dalby cattle sale more than double the previous week’s level.

Yearling steers to feed gained 6c to 8c and the medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 19c/kg better.

However the wet weather money of the previous week was absent and heavy steers and bullocks lost some of the previous week’s gains to average 16c to 20c/kg less.

This trend also flowed onto the cows with most 8c to 10c cheaper against the improvemen­ts of 20c/kg the previous week.

Medium weight yearling steers made from 288.2c to 316.2c to average 306c with medium weight yearling heifers making 260c to 295c with an average of 284.4c/kg.

Heavy weight grown steers sold at 270c to 281.2c to average 273.8c/kg.

Cows in the 520kg plus range sold at 212.2c to 223.2c with an average of 218.6c/kg.

The best heavy bull made 210.2c/kg.

WARWICK SHEEP

Warwick Selling Agents yarded 1112 lambs and hoggets, and 201 sheep at the weekly sale.

Top lambs account SA & FH Thompson of "Lochenfels", Deepwater sold for $ 176.

In a larger yarding of lambs consisting of mainly light trade lambs, the market was dearer for all descriptio­ns.

The sheep market was also dearer.

Crossbred lambs 51 - 55kg live weight selling from $148 to $168.

Crossbred lambs 46 - 50kg live weight selling from $146 to $170.

Crossbred lambs 41 - 45kg live weight selling from $138 to $159.

Crossbred lambs 35 - 40kg live weight selling from $124 to $147.

Crossbred lambs 56kg live weight selling to $176.

Crossbred hoggets 54.5kg live weight selling to $123 shorn

Trade wethers $8 selling to $95 or $ 3.95/kg est dress wgt

Light wethers $8 selling to $88 or $ 3/kg est dress wgt

Heavy xbred ewes $4 selling to $122 or $ 3.95/kg est dress wgt

ROMA PRIME

There was a yarding of 498 head today at Roma Prime Sale.

All the usual buyers were represente­d and operating.

The majority of the yarding was 276 cows, with 180 bullocks and 100 bulls for processing.

A small amount of yearlings went to feed and although plenty of cattle were off oats and feed, only one pen was certified grain fed.

The market was strong, with recent rain and more forecast for the coming week, remaining similar to last week.

The quality was also comparativ­e to the previous week.

Yearling steers topped at 272c, to average 248c and yearling heifers topped at 262c, to average 240c/kg.

Grown steers topped at 277c, to average 268c and grown heifers topped at 256c, averaging 224c/kg.

2 score cows made up to 142c/kg. Medium cows made up to 209c to average 200c and heavy fat cows made up to 226c, to average 212c/kg.

Young good yielding bulls made up to 258c, to average 240c/kg across all weight ranges.
