MERV Hughes was one of a generation of scallywag cricketers known as much for their off-field antics as their on-field pursuits. The moustachioed maestro of fast bowling has now turned to cooking with a bit of BS garnish.

Although we cannot all have a beer and steak with Merv, his barbecue tips will hopefully have your next gathering firing on all cylinders.

Although membership numbers of the organisation have dipped in recent years, the QCWA continues to provide vital support and community engagement for women in rural areas.

As a hungry cadet journalist who could burn a cup of tea, I never turned down an opportunity to go along to a meeting to take social photos or find out what some of the South Burnett branches were up to. The food at those meetings was incredible.

And in more exciting news, the Weekend magazine is receiving its own makeover.
