BASEBALL: Toowoomba Rangers are preparing to meet fire with fire when they suit up for a testing GBL Division One clash in Brisbane this weekend.

Rangers will be on the hunt for their first season points following two defeats in round one and a washout last weekend when they meet Royals in a round-three double header at Windsor.

Royals are defending Major League champions from last season and have made an unbeaten start to the new year.

But while Rangers appear on paper to face a tough task to lower their colours club president Darryl Luchterhand is expecting a spirited Toowoomba performance tonight and tomorrow afternoon.

“Royals haven’t dropped a game yet, and we want to put a stop to that this week,” Luchterhand said.

“There is a lot of improvement in us and although we couldn’t train last night we worked on our batting with some pleasing results.”

Rangers will call on Sam McNeice to pitch tonight with Matt Jones stepping up to the mound tomorrow.

“If we can take one game off them it will be a nice step forward, but we just want to show we are competitive,” Luchterhand said.

“We still have import players to arrive and we are looking forward to building through the season.

“Tarc (coach Tony Tarca) is not afraid of anyone and is always looking for a way to win.”
