CRICKET: The TCI one-day competition and Harding-Madsen Shield is scheduled to continue today but forecast rain may have the final say on the fate of this weekend’s Toowoomba cricket fixtures.

Round three matches featuring today include Metropolitan-Easts taking on Brothers at Harristown Park and University meeting Wests at USQ Oval.

Away games feature Laidley Districts against Northern Brothers Diggers at Bichel Oval and Northsiders versus Highfields Railways at Keith Sternberg Oval in Ipswich.

Toowoomba Regional Council yesterday reopened its sporting grounds which were closed midweek under its wet weather care and safety policy.

If predicted rain doesn’t arrive today a final call on whether Toowoomba games proceed will be made by the opposing teams and umpires this morning.

TCI president Angus Rathie said decisions will be made on a game-by-game basis.

“We’ve been able to get a roller on some of the fields and there is even a little sun out today,” Rathie said yesterday morning.

“We are hoping games go ahead and that’s what we’re planning for but it all comes down now to what the weather delivers tomorrow.

“Decision on whether to play or not will be made on a game-by-game basis which means some games could possibly go ahead and others may not.”
