THE Toowoomba region has so much to offer and tens of thousands of people each year are heading our way.

From our famous gardens and national parks to amazing shopping and historical sights, the city has come of age according to Tourism Darling Downs CEO Ruth Wetmore.

Ms Wetmore said the region had already made a name for itself a destination for culinary delights but now the city was gearing up for its next big draw card, sports tourism.

TWO Toowoomba police officers have been recognised as Everyday Heroes for their dedication and commitment to the community.

Senior Constable Catherine Nielsen was awarded the Dedication Award for her bravery under fire when Senior Constable Brett Forte was shot and killed on duty in May this year.

“Putting her life on the line, Senior Constable Nielsen showed dedication and loyalty to her service, colleagues and her community,” the QBank Everyday Heroes awards said.

Crime Prevention Unit Sergeant Scott McGrath was honoured with the Working Together Award for his role in the community for more than 15 years.

“He generously gives his time to Crime Stoppers, PCYC and Goodwill Committee, as well as local school and sporting events,” the judges noted.

“He is recognised for engaging and developing the community on and off duty.”
