TOOWOOMBA NORTH
TREVOR WATTS, LNP
THE Toowoomba North MP said he would focus on crime rates and road infrastructure.
“Being a local family man, I understand first-hand the cost of living pressures facing us all and the LNP has a plan to take action to reduce these pressures,” he said.
“In addition, I’ve been listening to my local community and will be announcing a range of local crime, transport, roads and health initiatives designed to continue to build a better Toowoomba.
“The key I believe is to have a local representative who is not only prepared to fight on the communities’ behalf, but will be around to see they are delivered.”
KERRY SHINE, ALP
A FORMER member for Toowoomba North, Mr Shine said his goals if elected would include further development in Highfields, delivering the infamous Quarry Gardens project and an emphasis on jobs.
“I want to see the Quarry Gardens happening. It’s a job-creating project,” he said.
“People are worried that even though the unemployment rate is low, a lot of the jobs are not secure or full-time.
“I’m hoping for many other good things to happen for us (if Labor wins).
“It’s a contestable seat. It requires less than 500 people to change votes and I think that message will get through.”
EMMELINE CHIDLEY, GREENS
EMMELINE Chidley said she was focused on preventing fast-tracked property developments that threatened local environmental sanctuaries, as well as a number of other community issues.
“I will fight four our community’s parks, public transport and schools to come before the profits of big business,” she said.
She said she would pursue investment in non-polluting energy solutions and would defend those who were in “most need”, including refugees of war, oppression and climate change impacts, as well as the elderly and people with disabilities.
She said education and mental health support and funding were also important.
PAUL WILSON, ONE NATION
PAUL Wilson said he would “put people before politics”.
He was committed to reducing electricity prices, to creating jobs and economic growth by driving down the cost of living, price of electricity and funding apprenticeship schemes.
He also would support small business growth by removing red and green tape while supporting fair competitive markets. Payroll tax reform is on his agenda to energise job and business growth while he would ensure hospitals had more staff, services and flexible models of health care.
He said he would scrap the Safe Schools program but ensure children had counselling and support.
