Fairytales go wild in Shrek
Musical is fun for all of the family
ONCE upon a time, in a far-away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek, whose precious solitude was suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairytale characters.
They were all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad.
Now, if you grew up in the naughties, or had children growing up in the naughties, you know all about how Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue Princess Fiona from becoming the lord’s bride.
But, what you might not know, is that the geniuses of the musical-theatre world took this iconic movie and turned it into a musical.
After its huge success with the 2017 musical Grease, the Toowoomba Philharmonic Society has announced it will bring Shrek the musical to life on the Empire Theatre stage in October, 2018.
Toowoomba Philharmonic Society conductor Cherie Vera said she was excited for the society to be able to perform the show for Toowoomba audiences.
“The story line is the same as the film and most people know it or grew up with it,” she said.
“We’re really excited to bring the animation to life in real time.”
Ms Vera said the society was seeking expressions of interest from those wishing to be considered for positions within the creative team for the 2018 production.
Expressions of interest were open for the following positions: director, musical director, choreographer, scenic designer, costume designer, stage manager, vocal coach and repetiteur.
Show development will start in early 2018, with casting auditions to be held around May of 2018.
If you’d like to be involved, send your CV and contact details to productions@tps.community by close of business on Friday, December 1, 2017.
For any other questions of inquiries, those interested can also contact the society via its Facebook page, visit www.toowoombaphilharmonic.org or phone 4636 3072.
