Market becoming stronger

TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

Numbers were up by 278 for a total yarding of 638 head.

There was a good supply of young cattle and an increased supply of grown cattle.

The yarding of young cattle consisted mainly of yearlings, with several pens of well-finished cattle suitable for the

trade, along with some well-bred steers and heifers that were acquired by restockers and feeders.

The market was generally stronger, with light restocker yearling steers selling to a top of 378c, and feeder steers sold up to 305c/kg.

Feeder heifers sold to a dearer market topping at 306c/kg.

There were some well-finished trade yearling heifers throughout the sale that sold 2c dearer and topped at 291c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted of an increased number of cattle with grown steers and cows well represente­d.

Quality improved with grown steers selling 5c dearer topping at 298c, while heifers sold to 273c/kg.

The cow market was up by 4c to 6c with medium weight 3 scores averaging 214c while heavy cows topped at 228c/kg.

MORETON CATTLE

Agents Boyd, O’Brien Bartholome­w reported a yarding of 480 head of cattle at Moreton on Tuesday.

Competitio­n was strong as numbers are short due to much welcomed rain, which made all descriptio­ns rise in value.

D & S Hill, Wondai, sold Charbray vealer heifers for 315.2c/kg weighing 221kg to return $696.

Wood Hill sold Santa cows for 234.2c/kg weighing 580kg to return $1358.

Greyman Bulls account Holzberger & Mackney sold for 277.2c/kg weighing 615kg to return $1705.

WARWICK CATTLE

Numbers were down slightly for a yarding of 927 head.

The yarding consisted of a good supply of young cattle, while grown cattle were in fair numbers.

The offering of young cattle consisted of several pens of well-finished yearlings suitable for the trade.

There was also a large number of light yearlings that were suitable for feeders, background­ers and restockers.

Quality was fairly good with cattle that were supplement­ary fed, along with a good supply of well-bred steers and heifers throughout the sale.

Competitio­n was stronger, especially from background­ers and restockers.

Local restocker interest was very strong, following good falls of rain in recent weeks, with prices improving by 20c to 30c/kg for the light yearling cattle.

Restocker weaner steers sold up to 413c and calves to 432c, while restocker weaner heifers sold to a top of 325c/kg.

Medium weight feeder steers sold up to 326c to average 303c, while feeder heifers averaged 295c/kg.

Trade yearling heifers were keenly sought, selling to 326c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted of several pens of grown steers and bullocks, some well-finished heifers and a smaller penning of cows.

There were some quality steers that were crop finished and supplement­ary fed.

The market improved by 8c to 10c, with steers selling to a top of 304c/kg.

Heifers sold to 285c/kg. The cow market improved by 4c to 8c with medium weight 3 scores averaging 219c and heavy cows selling to a top of 241c/kg.

ROMA STORE

There was a yarding of 5636 head today at Roma Store sale, up 3360 head on last week.

All buyers were present and operating in a robust market with a lift of 10c to 15c in

places relative to quality.

Widespread rain has improved cattle condition and boosted restocker confidence.

An impressive line of 415 steers average weight of 420kg sold for 312.2c/kg.

Territory Cattle from Helen Springs were also presented.

Yearling steers topped at 420c to average 360c/kg.

Trade steers made to 368c to average 303c/kg.

Yearling heifers made to 338c to average 313c/kg and trade heifers made to 312c to average 281c/kg.

Quality grown steers made to 288c to average 273c/kg.

Cows made to a top of 240c to average 219c/kg.

Young bulls sold to 358c to average 295c and heavy bulls made to 276c to average 252c/kg.

MURGON CATTLE

A total of 450 were yarded in Murgon Tuesday with all descriptio­ns selling to strong rates.

Heavier cattle were yet again in short supply with only about 120 of the yarding being export types.

The balance of the yarding was made up of mainly weaner age cattle.

Cattle were consigned from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Biggenden, Kingaroy and locally.

The best of the bullocks sold to $2.78 c/kg and $1480.

Heavy cows topped at $2.36 c/kg for $1480.

Cows over 500kg averaged $2.11 c/kg.

Cows 400-500kg topped at $2.27 c/kg averaging $2.09 c/kg.

Lighter cows sold to $2.00 c/kg.

Export heifers sold to $1150 and $2.79 c/kg.

Heavy bulls sold to $2.59

c/kg.

440kg Simmental steers from D Louis, Goomeri, sold to $2.92 c/kg and $1290.

D &G Shailer, Goomeri West, sold 360 kg Droughtmas­ter steers for $1125 at $3.12 c/kg.

309kg Charbray steers from D & M Hoogstrate­n, Goomeri, sold to $3.39 c/kg to return $1049.

Droughtmas­ter weaner steers a/c S & T Holding Cloyna sold for $3.00c/kg for $953.

R & D Warren, Mondure, sold Brangus weaner steers for $940 at $3.47 c/kg.

P & A Dingle, Mt Perry, sold Simmental cross weaner steers for $3.57 c/kg and $769.

Limousin cross weaner steers from the Steinhardt family, Hivesville, sold for $859 at $3.49 c/kg.

Local Charbray weaner steers sold for $3.44 c/kg returning $700.

405kg Droughtmas­ter heifers a/c D Vine, Hivesville ,also sold for $2.79 c/kg for $1130.

Charbray heifers weighing 300kg sold to background­ers for $881 at $2.92 c/kg.

242kg Limousin cross weaner heifers sold for $764 at $3.15 c/kg.

246kg Limousin cross weaner heifers from Cloyna sold for $770 at $3.12 c/kg.

S & J Borninkh of Cloyna sold Santa cross weaner heifers for $855.00 and $3.08 c/kg.

195kg Simmental cross weaner heifers from Mt Perry sold to $2.99 c/kg returning $583.

Santa cross cows & calves sold to $1320.

DALBY CATTLE

Despite further rain over the drawing areas the numbers

doubled. Yearlings were well represente­d along with cows, while there was a fair selection of heavy steers and bullocks.

Overall the quality and condition was mixed.

There were limited supplies of crop and supplement­ary fed young cattle with a fair percentage still showing the effects of low feed stocks in paddocks.

The regular buyers were in attendance.

Demand was strong through all classes with restockers and feedlots competing.

Market trends saw the medium and heavy yearling steers to restock and feed sell on a firm to slightly dearer market trend.

There were too few lightweigh­ts sold at the time of this report to quote.

Yearling heifers to restock and feed followed a similar trend to that of the steers.

Heavy steers and bullocks sold firm to a shade dearer with little but quality affecting price change.

There was a run of outstandin­g quality grain assisted heavyweigh­t cows penned, showing increased yield potential.

The market for heavy cows was up to 5c/kg dearer.

Restockers were active on PTIC and plain condition cows at dearer prices also.

Heavy bulls were firm to slightly cheaper.

WARWICK SHEEP

Warwick Selling Agents yarded 1527 lambs and hoggets, and 598 sheep last week.

Top lambs account RJ & DL Brown of Milgarra, Moonie. sold for $189.

In a larger yarding of both sheep and lambs, the market was firm on last week’s rates.

Crossbred lambs 51-55kg

live weight selling from $148 to $160.

Crossbred lambs 46-50kg live weight selling from $146 to $164.

Crossbred lambs 41-45kg live weight selling from $138 to $159.

Crossbred lambs 35-40kg live weight selling from $128 to $139.50.

Crossbred lambs 61.9kg live weight selling to $189.

Crossbred hoggets 52.8kg live weight selling to $128 shorn.

Trade wethers $7 selling to $140 or $4.30kg est dress wgt.

Light wethers $4 selling to $76 or $3.05kg est dress wgt.

Heavy xbred ewes $4 selling to $113 or $ 4.10 kg est dress wgt.

Light ewes $4 selling to $74 or $ 2.70kg est dress wgt.

ROMA PRIME

There was a yarding of 498 head at last week’s Roma Prime Sale. All the usual buyers were operating.

The majority of the yarding was 276 cows, with 180 bullocks and 100 bulls for processing.

A small amount of yearlings went to feed and although plenty of cattle were off oats and feed, only one pen was certified grain fed.

The market was strong, with recent rain and more forecast for the coming week.

The quality was also comparativ­e to the previous week.

Yearling steers topped at 272c, to average 248c and yearling heifers topped at 262c, to average 240c/kg.

Grown steers topped at 277c, to average 268c and grown heifers topped at 256c, averaging 224c/kg.
