Petition calls for city water park

IT IS no secret that what Toowoomba residents want more than anything is a water park.

Temperatures can plummet into the negatives during the winter months, but residents still won’t give up on their dream.

Every time The Chronicle asks its readers what Toowoomba needs, the most popular answer is a water park, followed closely by an Ikea and Costco.

Now a Toowoomba woman has started a petition on change.org to bring a water park to Toowoomba and has even suggested a way to utilise the area in the winter months.

Kathy Stajkowski started a petition this week which she will submit to the Toowoomba Regional Council once it builds up signatures.

The petition titled “Build a water park/ splash pad in Toowoomba” has gained 89 signatures.

Ms Stajkowski said it would be best to build an area that could be used by everyone all year round.

“Toowoomba is a rapidly growing city. We have one public swimming pool. We are hoping to get a water park opened in Toowoomba. One that can be utilised in both summer and winter,” she said.

“Pouring buckets, slides, and shallow enough to wade in. During winter the area can be used as a playground for scooter riding, roller blading and picnics.”

The closest Toowoomba has come to getting a water park was when Margaret St was shut down one day in 2015 thanks to The City Slider, a 325-metre water slide that sent people hurtling down the street on inflatable objects.
