Pants save girl from snake bite

THINGS could have been very different for a young girl if she wasn’t wearing protective clothing when she was approached by a brown snake.

South Burnett snake catcher Christian Andersen and his trainee snake catcher Darryl Robinson were called out to a rural property near Kingaroy last week after a young girl was hit in the leg by a large brown snake in her family’s storage shed.

“I received a call from a gentleman and his daughter had just got hit on the leg by a large brown snake. Thankfully she was wearing thick long pants and boots. Had she not then she would’ve been in a world of trouble,” he said.

“This is why it’s imperative to wear long thick pants and boots when out in the country or anywhere you think snakes could be.”

Mr Andersen said the girl was shaken up by the ordeal and it was lucky the snake was in the same spot when he arrived.

“It was an interesting position the snake was in, as its head was facing us the whole time and then when I hooked it under the body and made the grab it tried to escape through the floor boards,” he said.

He used a hook to initially grab the snake but he had to carefully pry it out from the corner of the shed to make sure it was unharmed.

While it was a bit of struggle the snake was relocated safely.

Mr Andersen posted a video of the capture to his Facebook page and it has already received more than 10,000 views, with many people praising his quick work.
