YOU DON’T NEED A MARQUEE INVITE TO JOIN THE FEAST FOR FASHION LOVERS THAT IS SPRING RACING. STYLIST KIMBERLY GARDNER SHARES SIX TRENDS THAT ARE A SURE BET ON RACE DAY

DETAIL MATTERS IN MONOCHROME

Head-to-toe monochrome is your style ticket for Derby Day. “Remember when wearing black and white the key to making a statement is with millinery or the silhouette of your outfit,” stylist Kimberly Gardner says. “David Jones has a stunning range of Ford Millinery pieces that will make your outfit stand out among the crowd and Ginger & Smarts’ Shutter fitted dress is perfect to add a little dramatic flair to your Derby Day outfit.”

KEEP IT PRETTY IN PASTEL

The pastel trend embraces a soft palette of rose quartz, green lily and serenity blue. “Pastels are so much fun to play with for spring racing, especially in shoes,” Kimberly says. “Remember to keep it dainty when choosing your footwear. Tony Bianco has an impressive range of pastel heels. Their Kalipso heels would pair nicely with Dion Lee’s Linear crepe pleat strapless dress in pastel blue.”

DARE TO SHINE

You can use this trend as an accessory guide, for example adding a touch of gold jewellery from Sass & Bide to your monochrome outfit, or go all out with a dazzling embellished dress. Kimberly says Manning Cartell’s Floral Alchemy dress with gold clipped jacquard floral embellishments is a winner.

FALL FOR FLORALS

From black and white prints to vibrant embroidery, florals are a favourite with racegoers. “This year hit the mark with Zimmerman’s Painted Heart tier dress, or go bright and bold floral with Thurley’s range,” Kimberly says. “The Lumineer crown from Mimco or their Botanica drop earrings are the perfect pieces to match a floral ensemble.”

GO BOLD WITH COLOUR

Whether it’s a rich red two-piece from Carla Zampatti or Scanlan & Theodore’s sapphire crepe knit ruffle dress, the key to this look is commitment. “From head to toe you need to make each piece match,” Kimberly says. “Wittner has some fabulous eye- catching colours in their Diablo heel to match your outfit. Don’t forget to bring your confidence when rocking this trend – be bold.”
