PUT FAITH IN A PRO DESIGNER

EXPERTS CAN SAVE YOU TIME, MONEY AND HELP WITH DECISIONS

- WORDS: TRACEY HORDERN

Over the years, friends and acquaintances have asked for my advice regarding decorating. They know I am obsessed with creating stylish spaces and keeping track of interior trends and writing about them.

But while they seek advice, they often do not heed it.

The exercise is one where they justify their own choices of decorating, and why not?

Our homes should please those who live in it.

I grew up in houses that my mother enjoyed renovating and decorating.

She did so with the help of a professional interior designer who spent so much time arranging our house, he became a close family friend.

But I now realise that this is not the norm for Australian homemakers.

Most Aussies know what they want and decorate and design their own homes.

Yet there are elements of interior design that only training and knowledge can provide.

A professional interior designer can help achieve not just a look, but they can help create a home that functions.

A designer can also help with lighting, colours and furnishings.

Plus, they should be able to help save you from making costly mistakes. Many designers also have relationships with suppliers and tradespeople that can save time and money.
