Maloney, Moylan set to switch clubs

PENRITH captain Matt Moylan and Cronulla premiership winner James Maloney are set to swap clubs in a stunning exchange worth $6 million.

NRL.com has reported that the Panthers have lodged paperwork to the NRL for approval on a three-year deal for Maloney worth about $2.4 million.

Moylan will head to the Sharks on a four-year deal worth about $3.6 million.

The Daily Telegraph reported on Thursday night that the deal could be confirmed by Monday, though it may come sooner.

The deal will have a huge impact on a fluid player market that already has Jarryd Hayne angling for a return to Parramatta from the Titans, Mitchell Pearce’s future still uncertain at the Roosters and Blake Green eager to leave Manly and take up a multi-milliondollar offer at the Warriors.

Moylan (pictured) has been unhappy at Penrith for the past six months after reportedly falling out with coach Anthony Griffin, despite the denial of a rift by Penrith officials.

The fullback sat out the Panthers’ finals campaign to deal with personal issues amid talk he was unhappy and wanted out of the club he joined as a local junior.

It’s understood that Moylan would be happy to play in the halves at Cronulla next season, making it a straight positional swap with Sharks No.6 Maloney.

Penrith had initially sought a transfer fee of $250,000 for every year of the four Moylan has left on his deal at the Panthers, but it’s believed they would now waive that if they got Maloney.
