Court proves a trial for scribes

Fourth Estate members court out

-

A TRIAL in a Toowoomba court has received such interest to the point Courtroom 5 in the Hume St courthouse has been packed to the rafters most days.

Five journalists had filed into the Magistrates Court for mention of another matter one morning this week and by the time they had made their way to the Supreme Court for the day’s trial evidence they found their State provided media table taken up by interested onlookers.

The judge entered the court to see the media throng standing in the gallery and asked that more seating be brought in.

It was at that moment a wag in the back of the court, noting the profession of the “Fab Five”, whispered the suggestion that they take their seats in the dock — normally reserved for defendants (and where more than a few believe the media should be).

The grinning bailiff was kind enough to bring in chairs from other court rooms so the members of the Fourth Estate were not left standing conspicuously in corners of the courtroom.

Rice try fella

WHITE collar Toowoomba office worker received a call from a familiar number late one recent afternoon but was confused when a chap on the other end began speaking in a very heavy Vietnamese accent.

Apparently, the office worker had ordered 20 mini rice paper rolls for lunch but he hadn’t come to pick them up.

Alas, the ruse began to fall apart when the “Vietnamese” man on the other end of the call started making up cheeky names for the restaurant he was purporting to be calling from.

What a bummer

THREE generations of a Toowoomba family enjoying a weekend at beach-front unit complex on the coast only realised they had forgotten supplies after the shops had shut.

Major items left behind were nappies for two-year-old boy who was soon in need of such attire.

No problem, Aunt and Grandma just took two of baby brother’s nappies and taped them together and, despite looking a little awkward, the toddler seemed comfortable enough.

Made for great viewing on Facebook.
