Wear mos for men’s health

STUDENTS and staff at St Mary’s College are showing they take men’s health seriously.

Along with a huge moustache placed proudly on the front of the college’s main building, stick-on mos took up residence on many faces this week.

Student Heath Dean said it was all about promoting men’s health and raising awareness funds and getting men moving.

“We are selling moustaches and just raising awareness - posters everywhere and on assembly telling everyone to get checked, what to get checked for,” he said.

Heath said it was a really important issue to talk about, especially at a younger age.

“We really want to stick with Movember’s goal to reduce premature death by 25 per cent in 2030,” he said.

“So when you are talking about your own mates, you don’t really want them to pass away too early - so it does hit home.”

The college also introduced the inaugural Movember Move competition, an inter-house touch football competition for all ages.

Each house had a teacher representative referred to as a Mo-Bro, who carried the banner for the house and challenged the boys to be proactive.

Teacher Stephen Sowter said it was really important the boys were talking about their health.

“So it is important for us as a school to really push that and to normalise these things so that we can prevent men dying early,” he said.
