Butchers carve up competition

- Meghan Harris meghan.harris@thechronicle.com.au

TWO Toowoomba butchers are carving it up when it comes to impressing customers with their prime cuts of meat.

The Chronicle asked its readers who they thought was the best butcher in town and with hundreds of votes Westridge Meats came out on top.

It was closely followed by Northpoint Meats.

Westridge Meats is owned by Luke and Michelle Jensen who took over the business, as well as The Ridge Meats, in July.

Almost everything in store is sourced locally with only a select few products that can’t be found in the region.

Mrs Jensen said her staff went above and beyond for their customers.

“We have fine quality meats and a range of cooked meals that make dinner easy for our customers,” she said.

“It is so beautiful to see all the kind comments. Some people are really proud to shop with us and I am proud to call them our customers.”

Westridge Meats also won best ham in Australia last year and Mrs Jensen encouraged people to get in quick if they wanted a Christmas ham this year. They are supplying 50 hams for The Chronicle’s Christmas ham competition which kicks off on Saturday.

Northpoint Meats is also stocking delicious Christmas hams, with them flying off the shelves already.

The butcher is owned by John and Lyn Yeo.

Jason Andrews has been a butcher for 18 years and now manages the store.

“We source our meat locally and also have an American barbecue range, it is a way we individualise ourself,” he said.

“We have very loyal customers and it is great to see them vote for us.”
