Why the song and dance? asks Okon
Central Coast boss Paul Okon will continue to dance and sing in the same fashion as last weekend if his Mariners beat Adelaide United in Gosford tonight.
Despite the former Socceroo incurring the wrath of some critics for being elated in beating Sydney, Okon (pictured) said the dressing-room celebration which saw him singing Daryl Braithwaite’s The Horses wasn’t intended to be beamed on Fox Sports.
“It’s a song that we put on when we win,’’ Okon said after transforming the Mariners from being an ugly football team into a side which pleases the eye.
“The last time I checked you’re allowed to celebrate a win. No it’s not normal to have Fox Sports cameras in the change rooms.
“I don’t how it happened, they wanted to interview Wout Brama in there and that coincided with the time we were having a sing. It’s interpreted as being over the top.
“I didn’t see the camera until the end of it... maybe I should sit there and shed a tear.”
Okon believes the Mariners must now back up the 2-0 win over Sydney by beating Adelaide. That would see the club record consecutive wins which hasn’t occurred since January.
Adelaide were the victims of Okon’s only back-to-back triumph of last season, losing 2-1 in Canberra, but the Mariners boss is not expecting United to roll over.
“We’re not looking into their losses, it will be a difficult game for us,” Okon said. Mariners v Adelaide United tonight 6.50pm (AEST)
