In 30 years of hosting his Basketball Supercamps Pop Dickerson has never sent a child home for playing up.

He said this was a testament to the quality of the coaches he brought in to run the unique camp.

Since it started in 1988 Dickerson has enlisted the help of former NBA stars Leroy Loggins, Andre Moore and Derek Rucker as well as current WNBL coach Carrie Graf plus more.

That’s where the name Supercamp came from.

“Because I recruited a lot of top names in Australian basketball at the time,” Dickerson said.

He initially started running Supercamps in Toowoomba and took them all over the country.

Now children travel from all over, including New Zealand, to attend the five-day camp.

Dickerson said it was the longest running and largest live-in camp in Australia.

“We have had some Olympians come through Supercamp year after year,” he said.

Those names include former Olympian John Rillie and CJ Burton who have also come back to coach.

fundamental skills in the morning and then have two game sessions in the afternoon and evening.

Dickerson said no other camp offered this kind of exposure, having three sessions per day.

He said parents who attended the Supercamps were now sending their own children to it.

“It’s good for me. It means I must have done something pretty good,” Dickerson said. “Hopefully in another 30 years I’ll still be going and we’ll get another generation here.”
