THE countdown is on to Christmas. With the stress of deadlines looming at work, busy end-of-year schedules and the need to find something to fill the children’s stockings, it can be easy to give up on your healthy habits.

The problem with letting your healthy habits slide is that by the time you reach the endof-year break you may be halfway to a health breakdown.

In my practice, I take care of teachers who, at the end of term crash, causing them to spend half their holidays recovering from sickness.

It doesn’t matter how you started the year, what’s important is how you finish. Finishing well will enable you to enjoy your health, good energy levels and quality sleep this holiday season.

Here are two tips to keep you sane and healthy during this season.

1. As time pressure amounts it can be harder to find time to make healthy meals. Cook once, eat thrice is a great guide. The few extra minutes you take in preparation time ensures you are putting quality fuel into your body.

2. Take a few moments throughout the day in the car on your way home and before bedtime to take deep breaths. It’s simple and free. This technique has a very calming effect on your wound-up nervous system.

These tips, simple as they are, when applied will help you get over the finish line of 2017 and enjoy a health-filled holiday.
