Defying police expensive

Ultimately, the defendant was granted his wish and was taken into custody.

A NIGHT on the coast proved expensive and a good lesson for a young Toowoomba man.

Police patrolling Caboolture about 12.30am, July 30, had pulled in behind a Commodore around which a group of people were standing including Jayden Lee Goessing.

A search of the car found a “bong”, which Goessing admitted was his and had been used for smoking marijuana, police prosecutor Al Windsor said.

However, when another of the group was arrested and put into the police vehicle, Goessing opened the door and got in too, telling police if they were arresting his friend he was going too.

Told to get out, the 20-year-old refused and had to be physically removed at which time he struggled with police, punched a constable, swore at police and kicked and damaged a panel of the police car.

“Ultimately, the defendant was granted his wish and was taken into custody,” Snr Const. Windsor said.

Goessing pleaded guilty to serious assault of police, public nuisance, obstruct police, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, wilful damage of police property and possessing a drug utensil.

Duty solicitor Claire Graham said her client had no previous criminal history and that he and his friends had been drinking that night. He spent five hours in the watch house, she said.

Magistrate Damian Carroll told Goessing he had shown “gross disrespect for the authority of police” and fined him $1500 but ordered the convictions not be recorded.
