Mt Lofty residents have say on estate
WHEN Ian Doneley first heard of plans for a new housing estate at the site of the old rifle range, he was concerned about potential impacts on the area.
After 25 years in the neighbourhood, he said he and his neighbours loved the green space and the views, so it would take a bit to get used to the idea of a new housing estate popping up.
But after two separate community consultation sessions, he was starting to feel a little more confident.
The second community session, held yesterday at the former rifle range headquarters, attracted plenty of residents keen to find out more and voice their concerns.
Mr Doneley said many residents shared concerns about traffic and views.
He was there checking out the updated plans with his next door neighbour Mike Clements, who believed ridgelines with views were equivalent to beaches in a place like Toowoomba.
“I’ve talked to people and their concerns are that traffic is already busy going into North St now,” Mr Doneley said.
“Adding another 400 cars means we need council to be proactive on the traffic, because more often it seems traffic problems are resolved reactively.”
Defence Housing Australia development manager Rob Winters said the turn-out was quite strong yet again and they would be doing their best to address concerns as the plan was developed.
