Two Toowoomba juniors are carrying on the region’s legacy of producing top level bowlers.

Cameron Stein, 15 and Nicole Caldwell, 17, have been selected to compete in the Australian Junior Championships in Victoria next year.

They will be up against hundreds of bowlers from across Australia in the annual two-week bowling extravaganza.

Caldwell will captain the South Queensland President’s Girls team.

She has been bowling for about 10 years and started competing in 2011.

“It’s just fun to hit the pins and when you’re with a team it’s really fun, there is more atmosphere,” Caldwell said.

Stein has already represented Queensland in the under-21 division at the MILO International Junior All Stars.

Held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia the tournament played host to 700 bowlers from more than 15 countries.

Stein, then 14, made the top 45 and finished 30th against some of the best junior bowlers in the world.

He also bettered his personal best game score and his personal best three-game series twice.

“I used to watch my dad in tournaments and always

wanted to be like him,” Stein said.

“It’s just an all-round fun sport to do.”

After the Junior Championships next year Stein hopes to continue playing in more major

national and international competitions.
