Chris Hall believes a change in the batting order is what South Queensland needs in order to defeat northern rivals in the XXXX Gold Cup.

The Toowoomba player has been South Queensland’s wicket keeper for the past three years and said scoring runs had been one of their downfalls.

“We probably didn’t score enough runs last year which cost us a few of the games,” he said.

“I think we have a bit of a different side this year. I think we can win it, definitely.”

He said having more batsmen in the side this year would help South Queensland’s Cup campaign.

Hall will start down in the order and said he would focus on playing his role as best he could.

This weekend is also Hall’s best chance to impress Queensland Country selectors after the Australian Country keeper retired.

The Qld Country side will be selected from this tournament however Hall said he wouldn’t focus on that this weekend.

“I’ve been putting too much pressure on myself all season,” Hall said.

“I just need to forget about it and enjoy it and have some fun.”

The 26-year-old started playing in the Gold Coast competition this season after Burleigh offered him a spot.

The Gold Coast team is now topping the competition for the first time since it entered.

“This year has been really good for all the boys,” Hall said.

Playing in the southern competition gives Hall the chance at playing for the Gold Coast Dolphins firsts in Brisbane Grade competition.

“I’m just happy with the change at the moment and it would be nice just to better my cricket in the end,” he said.

Hall will join Burleigh captain Simon Belston in the SQ side along with five other Gold Coast players.

He was also pleased to join Northern Brothers Diggers teammate Kris Glass and Wests’ Shaun McCarthy.

“It’s good to have a few guys you have played with and against to be a part of the South Queensland team,” he said.

“Most of the time it’s guys from the Gold Coast and other areas who seem to make it.”

He said having three players selected was a huge coup for the Darling Downs region.

“It just shows we can match it with any other region with the limited number of players we have,” he said.
