Precinct plan for Glenholme

STRONG interest in a new multi-million dollar sports complex in Glenvale is boosting hopes the idea will come to fruition.

Brothers Leagues Club Toowoomba chairman Gary Palmer said several city clubs and a physiotherapist had already indicated they’d support the development of a sports and community hub on Glenholme Park’s eight hectare grounds.

“We see Glenholme Park as potentially becoming a major sporting complex in our city,” Mr Palmer said.

“We have the capacity to cater for indoor sporting facilities and outdoor sporting facilities.

“There’s also potential for sports medical treatment, gyms and hydro-therapy pools - the opportunities are endless.”

Mr Palmer said the project could cost between $5 million and $10 million, and would be built over three stages.

“It’s going to be like a precinct - it’s not about Brothers,” he said.

“We’ve got this land, it’s valuable, we want to develop it but if it’s not going to benefit both parties then why bother going ahead with it?”

He said the precinct could work well with Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport and include national bowls competitions.

An expressions of interest night will be held at the Brothers Senior clubhouse at Glenholme Park from 6.30pm on Thursday, December 7. For details, see glenhomesports.com.au.
