Hard work brings surge in Chronicle readership

-

THE Chronicle is reaching more people than at any time in its history.

The latest data has revealed that the newspaper and its website engage with 317,000 people each month – reflecting 42% growth in the past year.

Editor-in-chief Steve Etwell said he was delighted with the latest figures.

“These numbers reflect the amazing effort the editorial team is putting in each day, all day.

“The Chronicle is now a true 24/7 news source and the dominant source for news in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

“This is reflected in the fact that our average monthly digital audience has surged by 88% within the past year.

“Additionally, our print readership is stable.

“We recorded zero readership decline for the Monday to Friday newspaper, one of the few publications in the country where that is the case.’’

Mr Etwell said readership numbers revealed that The Chronicle and its website reached nearly three out of four Toowoomba locals.

“That is a vote of confidence and trust from our readers and one we take very seriously.

“No other media organisation on the Darling Downs can match the size of our news team - or their dedication.

“Our average weekday readership has remained stable year-on-year, and net weekly readership (Monday-Saturday) has grown by 5% - meaning we’re being read by 5000 extra people each week.’’

The Chronicle plays an important role within News Corp’s regional network.

With a steadfast focus on regional Australia, our network connects with over 3.9 million people each month across our print and online assets – including more than 7 out of every 10 regional Queenslanders.
