Students reminisce about school days
THERE was quite a few giggles and laughs at the Harristown State High School Class of 1967’s 50 year reunion when talk turned to the time the graduating class managed to get a garbage bin on top of the flag pole on their last day.
Former student and one of the reunion’s organisers Carol Chalmers said the flag pole story was one of the more entertaining memories shared during the event.
“It was a really fantastic weekend,” she said.
Celebrations included a dinner at Fitzy’s Tapestry Function Room on November 11 where the “fantastic, loud 60s music couldn’t be heard over the top of our chattering” and a tour of the current school grounds on November 12.
During the tour, Mrs Chalmers said the group viewed the assembly hall, which was completed in 1967.
“Our group was the first to ever use the hall for their speech night,” she said.
She said about 50 people (including one former teacher) attended the reunion, with some having not seen each other since the day they graduated.
“But most of us hadn’t seen each other in 25 years, that was when we had our last reunion,” she said.
Mrs Chalmers said it was fantastic to be able to reminisce about the old school days with her former classmates and talk about what they’d done with their lives.
“Lots of memories flooded back,” she said.
