CRICKET: Metropolitan-Easts need to win every game from now on in order to make the finals in the Harding-Madsen Shield.

Their finals campaign starts this weekend against new Ipswich team South East Redbacks.

Met-Easts co-captain Peter Reimers said the team was feeling confident with the return of senior players like Matt and Simon Dennis.

He said Met-Easts would field one of their strongest sides despite missing Ross Milton and Troy Gurski.

“Troy is probably our best all-rounder and Ross is good with the bat,” Reimers said.

“But we have the young talent still there with Harry Weir and Seb Ingold.

“Hopefully they can step up again and produce the goods.”

Weir has impressed with his bowling this season.

“His line and length has been superb,” Reimers said.

While Ingold is the team’s spinner.

“He keeps it really tight and gets the odd wicket here and there,” Reimers said.

Met-Easts isn’t the only team blooding the next generation of Toowoomba cricketers.

“The way cricket is going at the moment .... all new talent is coming through and getting an opportunity in all grades,” Reimers said.

“Even University have a couple of young players and Highfields Railways, I know we beat them but they have a couple of really good players, they will be a really good team in the next couple of seasons.”

As for South East Redbacks, the Ipswich team has been the dark horse in the Harding-Madsen Shield.

“It’s the first time we’re playing them so we will just keep on doing what we do,

hopefully hit our line and lengths,” Reimers said.

“We’ve also been working on building partnerships in the batting and bowling and working as a team.

“As long as we do that we’ll be right.”

University will also be pushing for a finals spot sitting just outside the top four.

They play Laidley at USQ.
