FIGHT PREP: Michael Katsidis chats with the press and fight fans at the Super8 media conference earlier this week.

BOXING: Fight fans Australia-wide have their focus set firmly on Toowoomba.

Super8 fight night promoter Brendon Smith said the draw of former champions and highly respected boxers had captured the attention of fight fans everywhere and generated the most hype he had seen for tournament.

“I’m very very proud of what we’ve pulled together right here in Toowoomba,” Smith said.

“It is the biggest interest I have ever seen in fight night for a long time. There is so much excitement generated by the night and everyone is keen to see the results.

“It is going to be explosive, very explosive. It’s not going to be a walk in the park for any of the fighters.

“The boxers we have are among the highest calibre around and all of them have a lot of power in both hands. It’s going to be fast and furious.”

Aside from the obvious talent of the boxers assembled Smith said the “fight concept” is exciting for fight fans.

The night begins with four fights consisting of three, three-minute rounds with the winner of each fight advancing to the next round.

will be the boxer who claims three victories.

Smith said his heart sided with the Toowoomba fighters (Mick Katsidis, Mick Shaw, Jamie Hilt and Jack Asis) but after much deliberation he couldn’t pick a winner.

“No-one I’ve spoken to is confidently picking a winner and I’m the same. I just can’t say who I think can win.

“I have nothing but respect for them all and wish them all a safe journey.”

Smith did say he thought the boxer that adapted to his opponent and the fight the quickest would claim the title.

“I think you’re going to see a lot of these guys going for the knockout, so I think whoever adapts the quickest and holds their composure the best will win.”

GET RINGSIDE: Tickets are still available at the door for the Super8 fight night at Rumours International, Toowoomba. Doors open at 6pm with the first at 7pm.
