An explosive final capped off a memorable Super8 fight in Toowoomba at the weekend.

Jack Asis claimed the title with a dominant performance in the final, knocking down opponent Jamie Hilt twice in the opening round.

Asis continued to press Hilt early in the second round of the final eventually opening a cut on Hilt’s head before the fight was stopped by doctors.

Super8 promoter Brendon Smith said the final was the perfect end to what he described as a memorable evening.

“The whole night was incredible. I think it will be talked about forever and a day,” Smith said.

“There were some incredible fights. Everyone of them (the boxers) showed real heart.”

Smith said Asis, who stepped up three weight divisions to compete, grew in stature as the night progressed.

“Jack (Asis) was fantastic. He got better and better as the night went on,” Smith said.

“He’s been in the big fights, title fights, and he drew on all that experience but it was still amazing to watch him go to another level every fight.”

Asis signalled his intent early with a knock down of Commonwealth Games boxer Luke Woods in their opening round fight.

He then beat Ipswich’s Jason Kanofski in the semi-final before defeating Toowoomba boxer Hilt in the tournament decider.

“I have to give full credit to everyone involved in the night,” Smith said.

“Jack won the night but I have admiration for all of the boys involved.

“Jamie (Hilt) fought his way to the final and showed that he deserved to be there and all of them (the boxers) put it all on the line when they were in the ring.”

Smith said feedback from the boxing fans on the night had strengthened his desire to host another Super8 style tournament in Toowoomba in the future.

“It’s an exciting concept and we received fantastic feedback from everyone,” Smith said.

“We will definitely be hosting another fight night like this in Toowoomba maybe in another weight division.

PATH TO VICTORY: Jack Asis defeated Luke Woods and Jason Kanofski on his way to winning the Super 8 title. On the other half of the draw Jamie Hilt defeated Chinese boxer Ya Jie Ding and Michael Katsidis before losing to Asis.
