AEIOU advocates for NDIS

-

WITH support for all families of children with autism at the heart of what they do, AEIOU Foundation provides specialised group early intervention to children aged two to six years.

Delivered within a long day care setting, and including a minimum of 20 hours therapy per week, their program develops essential life skills, independence, confidence and inclusion, giving children the best chance to reach their full potential.

AEIOU Foundation also supports families and carers in their bid to help children achieve their goals in the home and community setting.

AEIOU CEO Alan Smith believes the NDIS has had a significant impact on their organisation.

“Currently, we are focused on ensuring families and staff are well versed on this new funding scheme,” Mr Smith said.

“We have employed an NDIS support coordinator to give information and guidance to help them access the funding they need, and we run regular workshops to give new families and the broader community specific facts on how the NDIS can fund high-quality early intervention.”

AEIOU is currently the only providers in Toowoomba offering full-time care.

“This unique model ensures parents and carers have the ability to work, study, care for other family members, and have the opportunity for respite,” Mr Smith said.

“We not only employ specialists in the field of behaviour therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and education, but we also have a dedicated research team which ensures our program is built on strong evidence.

“We are also active in the broad autism community, through involvement in autism advocacy, to ensure the needs of our families are heard by all levels of government.”
