NDIS empowers Judith to realise her goals
MAINTAINING routine and a healthy lifestyle had been previously challenging for 51-year-old Tweed Heads local Judith, but with ongoing support from Lifestyle Solutions and her recent transition to the NDIS, she now enjoys more activity and stability.
Judith, who loves getting out and socialising, has complex needs and has been supported by Lifestyle Solutions for a number of years.
For the past six months leading up to the rollout of NDIS in the southern Queensland region, Lifestyle Solutions facilitator Trevor Newton and support coordinator Monica Ullucci have incorporated the Active Support approach with Judith.
They believe this model, combined with her new self-managed NDIS funding, have had a significant impact on Judith’s quality of life.
Active Support has been shown to improve the quality of life and involves engaging people with disability in meaningful everyday activities of their choice.
“Prior to Lifestyle Solutions, Judith was in a stock standard and very outdated day program which wasn’t tailored to her individual needs,” Trevor said.
“We’ve assisted Judith to self-manage her funding from the NDIS and she now enjoys greater choice and control under the new program.
“Through the introduction of the NDIS, Judy is now able to enjoy a new version of independence.
“She is exploring new activities and has achieved several personal milestones such as a healthier lifestyle and weight loss.”
Judith is funded for coordination of supports under her plan and has engaged Lifestyle Solutions to provide these services.
Her support coordinator, Monica and facilitator, Trevor, are working together to assist Judith to have more personal care and active support seven days per week.
“Judith is really happy with her new NDIS plan,” Monica said.
“The local area coordinator was excellent and has followed Judy’s progress.”
Judith is now thriving in her new day program, getting out and meeting lots of new people, engaging with her community and working toward reaching her own goals and aspirations.
