Breakaway to great achievements

-

FOR Breakaway Toowoomba, the NDIS has been a fantastic development in their organisation that the community has embraced.

Breakaway Toowoomba treasurer Adam Keen believes the benefits of the NDIS are being seen, despite it being daunting at first.

“(The) NDIS offers the freedom of choice and control to directly influence the level and quality of support services that participants and their families desire to help achieve their goals and lead a full life,” he said.

“This level of control is not offered by any other scheme and is a big boost for the sector and the participants.”

Breakaway Toowoomba provides personalised support via community access programs, social groups, in-home support services, supported independent living and accommodation support, vacation care and transport services.

They are also there for families in times of emergency with day and overnight respite care facilities.

“Each of our participants is an individual who has their own hopes and dreams and we as an organisation take great joy in helping to fulfil those hopes and dreams whether it be for our high needs participants or for some of our lower needs participants,” Mr Keen said.

“It is our intention to ensure we are here to provide care and support for the community of Toowoomba for years to come.”

Breakaway Toowoomba also offers another special point of difference — a purpose-built respite facility known as BOB, or Breakaway on Bridge.

“This facility was designed and built by Breakaway to assist the community with respite requirements and emergency accommodation support because we know that this is important to our participants and their families and provides peace of mind that in times of need there is somewhere to turn,” Mr Keen said.

“We know that if we provide excellent care and support at each interaction then our participants will lead a happy life and we will benefit from the joy that brings us.”
