Hard work pays off for students selected in Queensland squad

-

Preparation is the key to success and success is the celebration of preparation.

That’s what Toowoomba Grammar School head swim coach Richard McLean told the students selected in the Queensland squad to compete at the Pacific School Games next month.

The team of 10 will head to Adelaide at the end of this week for a chance at a national title.

Lead by Australian champions Josh Smith and Isabelle Mason the Grammar contingent is ready to race.

They will compete against all other Australian states as well as international teams from India, the Philippines, New Zealand and Pakistan.

The squad will head south with some big-meet experience with half the students having competed in the games before.

McLean said the returning state swimmers would be able to share their games knowledge on how to handle the big meet with other teammates.

TGS coach and former Commonwealth Games star Darren Stewart is also on the Queensland panel which Mclean said would help the Toowoomba swimmers find their feet at the busy carnival.

Queensland coaches are keen to follow the progress of Grammar’s Will Salmond.

This will be his second games appearance with a number-one ranking in the U13s butterfly and top-three ranking in freestyle.

“I am very happy with the way all TGS Swim Club athletes have prepared for the games. I wish them well, “McLean said.

The games run from December 2-9.
