How Panthers shape up
Coach on the hunt for new players
The Darling Downs Panthers usually start trialling about this time of year, however coach Bec Stower has decided to push back trials until next year.
She decided to give returning players a “good break” and new players time to consider playing in the Queensland State Netball

“It’s going to be a bit of a rebuilding year again this year after the last two years,” Stower said.
“We have girls finishing high school and moving on and new people coming to town.
“We just want to keep our options open a little bit.”
She said some former players would be studying at university next year and were still deciding on whether to continue playing.
“I want to give them all time to find out where they’re all going. Hopefully they’ll be in a good frame of mind to trial,” Stower said.
On the back of Netball Queensland’s announcement that Toowoomba will host five home games next season, Stower predicts more players to trial for the Panthers.
“We want players who are committed. It’s a pretty full on season,” she said.
She will be looking for players who are coach-able and work well in a team environment.
“Everything else we can build on in training, skill-wise, dedication to the team and commitment are the two most important things with Panthers,” she said.
The Darling Downs state squads will be looking to fill an open and under-19s team.
Trials are open for players born in 2002 onwards and will be held on Sunday, January 21.
