Bold new future for sports hall of fame
The immediate future of the Toowoomba Regional Sports Hall of Fame is digital.
After a highly successful gala event last Friday to mark the induction of the hall’s first four stars, TRSHF chair Tony Coonan said they were already planning their future.
“It was a fantastic evening, well supported and everyone was very excited,” Coonan said.
“A lot people said they found it to be a very fun learning experience and now we’re looking to build on all that.
“First we want to increase our social media presence and build a dedicated website. We’re also in the process of applying for grants for touch screens.”
Coonan said the touch screens would be located at key points around Toowoomba and would provide a direct link to the website - a virtual museum.
“Our goal is to provide locals and visitors to the region with an interactive experience,” he said.
“They will be able to easily link to the website and discover all kinds of information at their own pace.
“We want to feature videos, photo galleries,

slideshows, interviews, historical information and links to other media coverage about the inductees.”
If the grant applications were successful Coonan said one of the touchscreen systems would be mobile.
“We want to be able to take one to major events in Toowoomba and its surrounds.
“We think it would be something visitors to the region would really enjoy.”
Sprinter Arthur Postle, Hockeyroos star Nikki Hudson and rugby league stalwarts John McDonald and Tom Gorman were the hall’s first four inductees.
“The message all of this shows is it can be done,” Coonan said.
“Just because you’re from a regional centre does not mean you can’t be a star or among the best in your sport.
“Just look at the calibre of our first inductees.”
