Soup kitchen wins $1000

Community gets behind Love Local

-

THE Basement Soup Kitchen received a $1000 donation as the winner of the Love Local promotion held at Highfields Village Shopping Centre.

The Love Local promotion - run at selected Charter Hall shopping centres, allowed Highfields Village retailers to nominate three community groups for the chance to win a $1000 donation.

Retailers selected worthy community groups in Toowoomba including The Basement Soup Kitchen, Highfields Pioneer Village and Hope for our Children.

The Basement Soup Kitchen was nominated by the owners of Crackerjack Chicken.

Highfields Village Shopping Centre senior marketing manager Elio Lacutone said the Love Local promotion offered both customer and community rewards.

“The only thing better than a good cause is a good cause that directly benefits the communities where we operate,” she said.

“Love Local allowed us to reach out to community groups that are important to our retailers, and offer them an opportunity to raise some funds simply by shopping at Highfields Village Shopping Centre.”

The Basement Soup Kitchen’s Tiffany Spary said the money would be used to purchase supplies, along with supporting other initiatives for the kitchen’s operations.

“We are humbled by the win and would like to thank all the shoppers who voted for our cause at The Basement Soup Kitchen,” she said.

Charter Hall ran the Love Local campaign in 10 of its shopping centres across Queensland and Northern New South Wales, giving away $28,000 in shopper prizes as well as $10,000 in donations to local community groups.
