Azar eyes second try at Everest
NOT content with conquering Mount Everest once, Toowoomba’s Alyssa Azar is planning to summit the mammoth mountain for a second time in 2018.
The 21-year-old adventurer did not wait long to embark on another bucket-list endeavour, announcing she intended to scale the mountain from the north side in March.
“I hadn’t really intended to do it again but I had been back for a while and I started to think about doing another climb because the thought of going back up Everest was really motivating,” she said.
“It was a little bit of the case of getting the itch again but at the same time I really sat on the decision as to whether I was willing to go through that process again.”
If successful, Ms Azar will be the first Australian woman to reach the summit of Everest from both north and south sides.
On her first climb up Everest, the former The Glennie School student took three attempts to reach the peak. That has not deterred her from trying again.
“I had a really great experience despite the three attempts, as tough as it was,” she said.
