Strong supplies of cattle

TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

THE number of cattle yarded was up by 330 for a total of 1172 head.

Both young cattle and grown cattle experience­d extra numbers.

Young cattle were well supplied with some good runs of well finished yearlings, mainly supplement­ary fed and well bred, attracting interest from both the trade and feeders.

There were also several pens of lighter yearlings that were mainly acquired by local restockers.

The yarding of grown cattle saw an increase in the number of cows offered.

Overall the market was cheaper with feeder steers selling 6-8c/kg easier with medium weights topping at 320c/kg to average 313c/kg.

Light restocker steers sold to 364c/kg for well bred steers.

Feeder heifers were most affected by the fall in prices to be down by 20c/kg and more in places, selling to 316c/kg to average 288c/kg.

The few trade heifers sold up to 316c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted of a larger number of cows and a good penning of grown heifers, however bullock and steer numbers were down, especially for the heavier weights.

Bullocks were down by 4-8c/kg with 3 and 4 scores ranging from 262-289c/kg.

Grown heifers sold up to 285c/kg.

The cow market was down by 10-12c/kg, although 2 score cows were not affected.

Medium weight 3 score cows averaged 228c/kg, while heavy cows sold to a top of 239c/kg.

MORETON CATTLE

AGENTS Boyd O’Brien Bartholome­w reported a yarding of 698 cattle at Moreton on Tuesday.

Values for veal and yearlings were slightly easier while young lightweigh­t feed-ons maintained their strong rates.

Trade remained unchanged and export met good competitio­n and sold to excellent rates.

G Kliebbe, Goomeri, sold brangus yearling heifers for 324.2c/kg weighing 269.4kg to return $873.

Angus cross yearling steers account Catherine Burton, Toowoomba South, sold for 343.2c/kg weighing 278.3kg to return $955.

Charbray grain assist heifers account Symbol D Grazing, Woolmar, sold for 304.2c/kg weighing 374kg to return $1138.

Charolais cross pasture steers account Mackinlay Family Trust sold for 311.2c/kg weighing 444.5kg to return $1383.

Pasture Ox account The Reinke Family, Capella, sold for 286.2c/kg weighing 541.7kg to return $1550.

M & L Murphy, Coalbank, sold feeder steers for 315.2c/kg weighing 346.4kg to return $1092.

A & S Smith, Fernvale, sold feeder heifers for 315.2c/kg weighing 335kg to return $1055.

Elsebach Grazing Co, Gayndah, sold angus cross feeder steers for 302.2c/kg weighing 375kg to return $1148.

Grain assist charbray heifers account Symbol D sold for 302.2c/kg weighing 420kg to return $1265.

T Doyle, Pine Mountain, sold medium grade cows for 240.2c/kg weighing 695kg to return $1669.

Dunlop Cattle Co, Proston, sold cows for 243.2c/kg weighing 663.3kg to return $1613.

G & J McPherson, Caloundra, sold charolais bulls for 272.2c/kg weighing 865kg to return $2354.

Dunlop Cattle Co also sold a pen of santa bulls for 270c/kg weighing 843kg to return $2278 and a heavy weight bull for 242.2c/kg weighing an impressive 1215kg to return $2942.

DALBY CATTLE

WIDESPREAD rain in some of the western areas restricted some movements of cattle for last week’s Dalby cattle sale, although there were consignmen­ts from the Channel country, resulting in a smaller yarding of 4043 head, down by 1284.

Yearlings were well supplied, while bullocks and cow numbers were down.

The market was generally strong with medium weight feeder steers selling 10c/kg dearer, topping at 334c/kg to average 319c/kg, and heavy feeder steers averaged 315c/kg.

Feeder heifers were 5c/kg dearer topping at 313c/kg to average 300c/kg.

The export cattle were made up of a fair yarding of bullocks and steers and a smaller penning of cows.

Bullocks were down by 3c/kg to average 201c/kg, while heavy steers were 10c/kg cheaper to average 288c/kg.

Heifers were 3c/kg dearer selling to 285c/kg.

The cow market saw medium weights hold firm to average 232c/kg, however heavy cows were down by 7c/kg and sold to 246c/kg to average 240c/kg.

BIGGENDEN CATTLE

BURNETT Livestock and Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday saw a yarding of 1492 head.

Heavy bulls topped at 266c/kg; bullocks topped at 282c/kg; cows over 500kg topped at 228c/kg; cows 400-500kg topped at 218c/kg; trade heifers over 400kg topped at 290c/kg.

Jensco Grazing, Mt Perry, sold santa gertrudis bullocks for 281c/kg, $1494.

Glenellen Cattle Co, Chinchilla, sold two tooth bullocks for 282c/kg, $1702, four tooth bullocks for 279c/kg, $1694, and six

tooth bullocks for 272c/kg, $1622.

S Whitaker, Murgon, sold santa gertrudis cross cows for 227c/kg, $1407.

GEE&IJ Dent, Gayndah, sold charbray cows for 228c/kg, $1392.

Feeder steers 400-500kg sold to a top of 311c/kg while steers 300-400kg sold to 341c/kg.

Steers 200-300kg sold to 380c/kg.

T&C Bourke, Mundubbera, sold milk tooth charolais cross steers for 311c/kkg, $1338.

RA Young, Coringa, sold milk tooth droughtmas­ter cross steers for 301c/kg, $1330.

Rockemer Grazing, Broowena, sold outstandin­g charbray weaner heifers for 316c/kg, $1061.

ED Jensen, Wallaville, sold brangus weaner heifers for 321c/kg, $893.

W&L Beddows, Windera, sold simbrah weaner heifers for 322c/kg, $757.

V Munkton, Gin Gin, sold aged droughtmas­ter cross cows and calves for $1460 and young droughtmas­ter

The final Biggenden meatworks and store sale for 2017 is scheduled for Monday, December 11.

ROMA STORE

NUMBERS nearly doubled for a yarding of 7437 head.

Young steers and heifers were well supplied along with a good penning of grown cattle.

A large percentage of the cattle were drawn from local areas, as well as consignmen­ts drawn from the far west and north.

Local restockers and background­ers, as well as feeders were keen to acquire cattle, in a fairly good quality yarding, although some cattle were showing the effect of dry conditions in some areas.

There were good runs of well-bred cattle through the sale.

Competitio­n was very strong with light restocker yearling steers selling to a top of 418c/kg, to average 383c/kg, while medium weight feeder steers topped at 338c/kg, to average 325c/kg.

Heavy feeder steers sold to 342c/kg, to average 312c/kg.

Light restocker heifers were keenly sought after, selling to 350c/kg.

Feeder heifers sold to 336c/kg, to average 303c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted of good runs of bullocks, steers and heifers, while cows were in fair numbers.

Quality was good in a market that saw bullocks sell 6c/kg cheaper, ranging from 258-282c/kg, while heifers sold to 270c/kg.

The cow market was down by 6-7c/kg, medium weights averaged 216c/kg and heavy cows sold to a top of 235c/kg.

Heavy bulls to 271c/kg.

MURGON CATTLE

JUST under 1000 were yarded for Murgon’s second last sale for 2017.

All descriptio­ns sold to very strong values with about 200 export cattle yarded.

Heavy bulls sold to 274c/kg for $2440.

Bullocks sold to 289c/kg and $1650.

Cows over 500kg averaged 221c/kg for a top of 233c/kg and $1620.

Cows 400-500kg sold to 218c/kg and $1080 for a 211c/kg average.

Lighter cows under 400kg sold to 206c/kg.

Heavier export heifers sold to 273c/kg and $1475.

J & B Seymour, Wondai, sold hereford steer for 298c/kg and $1505.

Charbray steers a/c V & N Browning, Moffatdale, also sold to 298c/kg returning $1340.

Mawson Pastoral Co, Mondure, sold red brangus cows and calves for $1500.

Droughtmas­ter cross cows and calves from Waringa Breeding Co, Hivesville, sold for $1340.

The last Murgon sale for 2017 will be on Tuesday, December 12, at 8am.

WARWICK SHEEP

WARWICK Selling Agents yarded 2161 lambs and hoggets, and 473 sheep at the weekly sale last week.

Top lambs account Joppich Pastoral Co of Ellangowan sold for $201.

In a larger yarding of both sheep and lambs, the market was firm for the heavy export lambs and easier for all other descriptio­ns.

The mutton market was firm on last week’s rates.

Crossbred lambs 51-55kg live weight selling from $150 to $168. Crossbred lambs 46-50kg live weight selling from $146 to $160.

Crossbred lambs 41-45kg live weight selling from $132 to $148. Crossbred lambs 35-40kg live weight selling from $129 to $141.

Crossbred lambs 65kg live weight selling to $201.

Crossbred hoggets 55kg live weight selling to $110 shorn.

Trade wethers $10 selling to $113.00 or $ 4.10kg est dress wgt. Light wethers $4 selling to $65 or $3.05kg est dress wgt.

Heavy xbred ewes $6 selling to $122 or $ 4.05 kg est dress wgt.
