MOTOSPORTS: Toowoomba Riders have finished the racing year on a high after bringing home the goods from the Go Girls Racing Australia (GGRA) Series.

Sophie-Lee Schultz placed second in the auto division two 7-9 years ago group, Georgia Say also came second in the 65cc 10-12 years and Alana Schultz came second overall in the mini light 12-16 year olds.

In the male division Cooper Say placed third in the 50cc auto 7-9 years and Jaydon Robinson came second in the senior men’s MX 1 and third in the unlimited men’s category.

GGRA president Nicole McIntyre said the Toowoomba riders had improved greatly during the series this year.

“The Say and Schultz families did well, it was nice to see them finish up with the trophies,” she said.

“These girls are just getting better each time they ride. They worked really hard during the year so it’s nice to see them improve.”

GGRA is the only series in Australia that runs full classes in the male and female division.

“When you have a female series it makes the riders want to go home and train and do better next time,” McIntyre said.

“It encourages new female riders who don’t have to race against boys and gives them an opportunity just to give it a go.”

The series has been operating since 2004 and this year became a not-for-profit organisation.

The final round earlier

this month attracted a record number of nominations of 220.

“We have increased rider numbers with females and support from males,” McIntyre said.

Next year she said the event had already attracted international riders.
