CRICKET: Metropolitan-Easts are gearing up for a huge weekend of cricket.

The Trojans open their 2017/18 Twenty20 campaign against Lockyer tonight before another T20 match tomorrow and a one-day semi-final on Sunday.

Met-Easts all-rounder Peter Reimers said he expected his side to be more than competitive despite the heavy workload.

“Rest and recovery is going to be the key for us,” Reimers said.

“We’ve got a good team, plenty of players who can score runs and a good bowling attack.

“It’s just a matter of the boys making sure they do the right things after each game.

“Patch over the wounds and get a good rest before the next one.”

Despite the often fast pace of the T20 game Reimers said big-hitting won’t be the key to victory.

“It (T20) is not all about hitting big sixes and boundaries,” he said.

“We have plenty of blokes who can score, but it’s about who can turn the strike over.

“You need to be able keep those singles flowing, keep the scoreboard ticking and put the bad balls away.”

Work commitments rule Reimers out of action this weekend – but he said the side look forward to matches against Lockyer Valley who play most of their cricket in the Ipswich competition.

“You get a little bit used to seeing the same faces every weekend,” he said.

“They offer something different, it’s good to see some different players.”

The Trojans will face Highfields-Railways tomorrow before facing Western Districts in their one-day semi-final on Sunday.

Reimers said the change from the T20 to one-day format won’t pose a problem for the Trojans.

“We don’t have to change a lot for the one-day game,” Reimers said.

“They just need to be switched on, focused on the game they are playing and what needs to be done in that particular game.”
