Numbers ease after rain

TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

THE second to last sale for the year combined with isolated rainfall across the supply area reduced numbers by 31 per cent.

A fair panel of buyers was present and most were operating.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers experience­d a small improvemen­t, while some well-bred lines to background­ers averaged 18c/kg dearer.

The better end of the light weight yearling heifers received strong support from restockers as well as feeder operators.

However, heavy grown steers and bullocks to export slaughter lost a further 9c to 10c/kg.

Cows also experience­d a similar downward trend to average 8c to 9c/kg less.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock mostly sold about 348c with some to 362.2c/kg.

Yearling steers in the 280-330kg range to background­ers made to 349.2c to average 339c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 321c and made to 330c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 297c with some to 306.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 306c and made to 330.2c, with a few returning to the paddock reaching 339.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 274c, while the better condition lines averaged 298c and made to 318.2c/kg.

A small selection to the trade made to 290.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 278.2c, while the bullock portion made to 277.2c to average 276c.

Medium weight three-score cows averaged 215c and made to 221.2c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 228.2c, with most around 227c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 250.2c/kg.

MORETON CATTLE

AGENTS Boyd O’Brien Bartholome­w reported a yarding of 420 head at Moreton on Tuesday.

Due to the welcomed rain, numbers eased this week, holding prices firm.

With the store cattle in strong demand and plenty of buyers operating, they sold to a very firm market.

Vealers sold to an unchanged market while good trade cattle and export cattle eased slightly.

Rogers Egg Supplies of Toogoolwah sold droughtmas­ter yearling heifers for 302.2c/kg, weighing 260kg to return $785.

Droughtmas­ter weiner steers account M. Conroy of Bryden sold for 344.2c/kg, weighing 230kg to return $791.

Sword holdings of Toogoolawa­h sold charbray feeder steers for 298.2c/kg, weighing 405kg to return $1207.

Elsebach Grazing of Gayndah sold brangus cross steers for 291.2c/kg, weighing 412kg to return $1200.

Euro cross steers grain assist account Tinton Grazing sold for 284.2c/kg, weighing 295kg to return $838.

Gallanani Grazing sold charolais cross heifers for 298.2c/kg, weighing 546kg to return $1629.

Grainfed steer account Gallanini Grazing sold for 288.2c/kg, weighing 520kg to return $1498.

Jimna Grazing sold medium grade cows for 229.2c/kg, weighing 572kg to return $1312.

Ashley Schefe of Anduramba sold bulls for 254.2c/kg, weighing 1090kg to return $2770.

Next week is the last sale of the year for Moreton Saleyards. The first sale back will be on January 9.

WARWICK CATTLE

NUMBERS were back considerab­ly for a yarding of 1090 head, down 537 head. Yearling cattle were well supplied with both steers and heifers well represente­d.

There was a smaller yarding of grown cattle.

The yarding of young cattle consisted of several runs of well-bred cattle that were suitable for feeders and restockers.

There were also several pens of well-finished supplement­ary fed yearlings throughout the sale.

Overall the market was easier, with light restocker yearling steers selling 2c to 3c cheaper, topping at 380c to average 361c/kg.

Feeder steers were down by 10c to sell to 320c and average 304c/kg for the medium weights.

Feeder heifers averaged 290c/kg.

Trade yearlings met very strong demand, with trade yearling steers selling to 321c, while yearling heifers were up to 18c dearer, selling to 330c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted of a smaller penning of bullocks and steers, while there was a fair supply of cows.

Bullocks and steers were 8c cheaper selling to 278c, while heifers topped at 281c/kg.

The cow market was down by 5c to 9c with medium weight 3 scores averaging 218c and heavy cows sold to a top of 233c/kg, however quality was not up to last week’s standard.

ROMA STORE

THE supply of stock was reduced by 23 per cent following the large yarding last week. Cattle were drawn from a wide area of the state as well as the Northern Territory.

A good panel of buyers was present and all were operating, with one large consignmen­t of vendor bred lines receiving very strong support.

A larger line-up of better-quality steer calves experience­d a lift in price.

All classes of yearling steers continued to meet strong demand from restockers and feeder operators.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background­ers received some improvemen­t in price.

A small sample of heavy grown steers and bullocks sold to within a few cents of the previous week.

The majority of the cows also experience­d very little change in price, however the better heavy cows were marginally dearer.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to a top of 426.2c, with a fairly large sample averaging 398c, while the heifer calves reached 364.2c with most close to 359c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged 362c with a few pens to 388.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 317c and made to 346.2c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 294c with sales to 302.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers were well supplied and buyers absorbed the large number plus lifted average prices to 333c with sales to 362.2c/kg.

A handful of heavy grown steers made to 273.2c and a few plain condition bullocks averaged 260c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged close to 209c and sold to 211.2c/kg.

The best of the medium weights averaged 227c, while good heavy cows made to 236.2c to average 230c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 264.2c/kg.

DALBY CATTLE

NUMBERS increased by 1571 head to 5614 at Dalby last week and there was wide variation in quality across all classes.

The larger numbers allowed averages to ease for most categories.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed lost 10c, however heavies to feed experience­d very little change in price.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed lost 10c and more than 20c/kg in places.

A small sample of heavy grown steers and bullocks were 12c to 13c/kg cheaper.

Cows also sold to a cheaper trend with most 12c to 13c

less and up to 17c/kg in places.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 304.2c with medium weights to feed making from 294.2c to 320.2c, back by 10c/kg.

Heavy weights sold from 294.2c to 306.2c to average 301.6c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold from 276.2c to 300c to average 291.7c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to processors made from 277.2c to 281.2c, back 12c, with D3 grown heifers selling from 228c to 250.2c to average 241.8c/kg.

D2 cows 400-520kg made 200c to 210c, with heavy weights making 232.2c/kg.

The best bulls made to 298.2c/kg.

WARWICK SHEEP

WARWICK Selling Agents yarded 1197 lambs and hoggets, and 563 sheep last week.

Top lambs account Natalie Kath of Clifton sold for $200.

In a smaller yarding of lambs and a similar yarding of sheep, the market was firm for the better lambs with the lighter plainer lambs cheaper.

The mutton market was firm to a shade dearer.

Crossbred lambs 51–55kg live weight sold from $162 to $185. Crossbred lambs 46–50kg live weight sold from $146 to $164.

Crossbred lambs 4–-45kg live weight sold from $134 to $150. Crossbred lambs 35–40kg live weight sold from $109 to $119. Crossbred lambs 68.1kg live weight sold to $200.

Crossbred hoggets 65kg live weight sold to $120 shorn.

Trade wethers $12 sold to $140 or $4.20/kg est dress wgt. Light wethers $6 sold to $96 or $3.10/kg est dress wgt.

Heavy crossbred ewes $8 sold to $128 or $ 4.10/kg est dress wgt.

Light ewes $4 sold to $71 or $3/kg est dress wgt.
