Rangers push ladder leaders to the limit

-

BASEBALL: Toowoomba Rangers coach Tony Tarca can feel a change slowly starting to take place.

The Rangers pushed top team Windsor Royals all the way at the weekend and came within one innings of posting their first win of the GBL Division One season.

However one bad innings cost them seven runs and they were unable to bounce back.

“In that one innings we made a couple of crucial errors. I’ve said many times you can’t be doing that in this league because it will cost you dearly,” Tarca said.

“We made those couple of outs and were still 3-nil into the seventh or eighth innings.

“We were only a couple of hits away to tie with them.”

He said Rangers lacked a bit of hitting but were a lot better defensively.

“A lot of the guys are really new to this league so it’s difficult when they see quality pitching,” he said.

“But everyone is going out to try and do better so I can’t say any negatives against them.”

He said the team would keep battling on in the hope of getting a win sooner rather than later.

“I’m slowly starting to feel a change,” Tarca said.

“We are starting to feel a bit more together as a team, I know it has been a tough season to date.”

Tarca said he had been making some changes at training.

“I’m asking more of people and the guys have been putting in more,” he said.

“The pitchers are starting to do a bit more running.

“At the end of the day if you’re not doing what you have to off the field you can’t take it on, it makes it a lot harder.”

Rangers also hope to bring in a new import after the break.
