Serving up festive cheer to truckies

-

AN OAKEY woman is on a mission to make sure lonely truckies get a taste of the festive spirit.

Lynda Birnie has put the call out on social media for any truck drivers travelling the Warrego Highway on Boxing Day to pull up on the pads near Oakey and enjoy a Christmas meal.

“We are a trucking family and we know Christmas is approaching fast, and with all the festive cheer flying all over the nation, there will be those legendary truckies still on the road, away from their family, alone on the road,” she said.

“I’m willing to bring a truckie a feast only - only condition that you have no allergies cause (sic) there is absolutely nothing gluten free, nut free or fat free or seafood free with this lunch.”

The feast will ham and roast pork, six salads and softdrink.

Mrs Birnie, whose husband is a truck driver, said this was the first year she had planned the lunch and encouraged others to take the initiative and share the Christmas spirit with drivers.

“A lot of drivers will be alone and missing their families deeply,” she told The Chronicle.

“This is just the Aussie spirit - keeping it alive.”

Mrs Birnie said she wanted nothing but a bit of help spreading the word and letting drivers know she would be there on the day.

She will be on the truck stop site east of Oakey on the Warrego Highway from 1pm on Boxing Day.
