Skies are the limit with rooftop bistro

- Tom Gillespie tom.gillespie@thechronicle.com.au

THE opening of Toowoomba’s newest rooftop bar and bistro is just months away, according to the agent in charge.

A new photo has revealed the progress on the venue, with 25 tonnes of steel installed to support the roof above what will be a major retail and hospitality precinct in the Toowoomba CBD.

LJ Hooker Commercial’s Markus Eames said the bistro’s owner Phil Coorey hoped to open the business by the middle of next year.

“I’d call this a true rooftop bar and restaurant, and I don’t mean this as disrespect to the others in town,” Mr Eames said.

“Twenty-five tonnes of steel have gone down for the floor, and things are really happening.

“We’ve changed the plans so many times because we’ve been trying make it a rooftop bar for all occasions – rain and shine.

“Because we’ve had to install a lot of fire stairs and lift wells, there’s been a lot of demolition work, to create support for the top floors.

“I would say mid-next year we’ll be open for business.”

The venue, which used to house Westpac until 2016, will feature three retail tenancies on the bottom floor, as well as a new foyer.

“We’re ready to commence the leasing soon to have tenancies available by May next year,” Mr Eames said.

“We have been getting interest from businesses, including some overflow from the Grand Central redevelopment.

“We’re very selective – we want to have the right mix of tenants for this development.”

It will feature a retractable roof to keep it viable in all seasons.
