Upcoming day to reveal secrets of native angus
THE Ausline cattle association is sponsoring a day in Toowoomba in January, with Geordie and Julia Soutar, the owners of Dunlouise Native Angus stud Scotland.
Geordie Soutar is the hero of the native angus breed, having preserved the original aberdeen angus genetics in their pure form. Native angus had been placed on the rare breeds registry as an endangered breed until Geordie set out to preserve and use these genetics in his angus herd.
Native angus have now been exported all over the world. Geordie will be speaking about the native angus and their relevance to modern cattle breeding. A visit to a nearby stud to view Ausline progeny which are infused with native angus genetics has been arranged.
The Ausline breed incorporates native angus genetics and since 2013 the progeny have had success in the commercial sphere and show ring. Bulls infused with native angus genetics have found favour with commercial hereford and charolais herds because of the traits they impart - muscling, depth, easy calving, grass fed production. An Ausline heifer, infused with native angus genetics, was interbreed small breed female at this year's Brisbane EKKA.
The day with Geordie will be held in Toowoomba and at an Ausline stud nearby on January 20, 2018. All cattle enthusiasts are welcome to attend.
