St Kilda has appointed former AFL executive Simon Lethlean as its new football boss.

Lethlean, who resigned from the league in acrimonious circumstances earlier this year, will replace Jamie Cox in the role after he moved as part of a reshuffle in the football department.

The Saints board “unanimously endorsed” Lethlean’s appointment, marking his return to footy after leaving the AFL in July due to an inappropriate relationship.

“Simon brings significant skills and experience to the club,” St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis said.

“His knowledge of football, from grassroots to the elite, as well as his executive experience in ... game development, AFL Women’s and football operations will be invaluable to St Kilda.

“His experience as a successful club and representative coach and player prior to his administrative career rounds out an enviable football resume.”

Prior to his departure earlier this year, Lethlean had spent 14 years with the AFL.

Lethlean (pictured) had been linked to vacant CEO roles at Carlton, Collingwood and Hawthorn prior to landing the job at St Kilda.

“St Kilda is a club with a clear vision, a united administration, a very strong coach and a young talented list,” Lethlean said.

“I am extremely pleased to be joining the club in this new role and feel humbled to be given a second chance in the industry that I love.”

Lethlean will begin his new role on January 8.
