Cooking and camping

-

CAMPING isn’t camping if you don’t have traditional camp food.

Try these simple recipes.

★Egg in toast basket: Make a hole in the middle of the bread. Butter bread on both sides. Add the bread to the frying pan, crack the egg in the middle, and cook.

★ Campfire corn on the cob: Put some butter on the corn, add some inside the aluminium foil. Wrap corn in foil and add to the coals. The butter melts all over the corn as it roasts on the campfire.

★ Curly dog: Wrap pre-made dough around a hot dog, put it on a roasting stick, and cook over the campfire.

★ Campfire popcorn bags: Make bag from tin foil, tie with a string and hang it over the campfire. In no time you’ll have delicious fresh popcorn.

★ Pineapple skewers: Thread tinned pineapple pieces onto a skewers and brush with honey or golden syrup and grill on barbecue until caramelised.

★ Cheese toast: Mix softened butter and cheese together then spread thickly over slices of bread. Toast bread over fire.

★ S’mores toast: Slice a bread stick into thin rounds. Toast under the grill until they are golden on both sides. Spread chocolate spread e.g. Nutella, on to mini toast and top with one marshmallow. Place under the grill and cook until marshmallow has melted.

★ Camping pizza: Spread pizza sauce on English muffin halves. Sprinkle cheese on top of each slice. Add toppings as desired. Put foil down on grill and cook over warm fire or cook on an open campfire until cheese is golden brown.

★ Don’t forget to toast marshmallows.
