Council hunting its ‘Grinch’

WESTERN Downs Regional Council is on the look-out for the Grinch who attempted to ruin their Christmas.

A post on their Facebook page last Friday detailed how vandals had struck, causing damage to its festive decorations in Dalby last week.

“We were too busy looking forward to Santa’s arrival to think that the Grinch would visit Dalby too,” the post read.

“Overnight, vandals have badly damaged the Thomas Jack Park Rotary Rotunda and the brand new MyALL 107 Christmas Tree, which was only unveiled last week.”

Now, WDRC has announced it is on the chase for the alleged Grinch.

A video featuring mayor Paul McVeigh posted to the WDRC Facebook page outlined the action council was taking to reprimand those responsible.

“The good thing is we have cameras at the park and police are investigating and looking into that footage now to see if we can find the culprits there,” Cr McVeigh said.

“Fortunately we have some spare cameras that we have just installed... that will be movement sensitive so if anyone touches that three again we’ll have them.”

Assistance from staff and a number of council’s little helpers was needed to erect the tree back into its proper position as well as helping clean up the damage done to the Jack Park Rotary Rotunda.

“(The tree) is a little bit shorter but it has got the Christmas spirit and the cheer back into our community,” Cr McVeigh said.

“We’re not going to let anyone dampen our great Christmas spirit.”
