Farewell to USQ after 25 years

IF there is one thing Dr Karey Harrison will miss after 25 years at USQ - it’s the people.
“The thing I like about USQ is there are a lot of students from disadvantaged backgrounds and non-traditional backgrounds whose families didn’t get a university education,” Dr Harrison said.
After a quarter of a century, Dr Harrison is preparing to say goodbye to the place where she bestowed knowledge upon thousands.
But with such a long time in one place comes a lot of clutter.
Dr Harrison’s last official day on campus as a member of staff was last Friday, though she only finally managed to clear her office and hand over her keys yesterday afternoon.
For the former Honorary Senior Lecturer, it was an emotional farewell as she prepared to leave campus for the final time.
However Dr Harrison was more excited about the future than sad about the past left behind.
“It is an exciting new chapter in my life and I have plans for things I am going to do over the next few years,” she said.
“I really haven’t had time to slow down yet to know what it’s going to be like not coming in here every day.”
Dr Harrison has seen the university undergo several makeovers in the two decades she has taught there, but she believes she left USQ a better place than when she first arrived.
